Grumman F-14A Tomcat, 1980 - 1991 The Red Rippers received their first F-14s in an overall gull-gray colours scheme with high visibel national insignia. All in all, during this period VF-11 didn't change it's colours a lot. High visibility national insignia were replaced by much smaller and gray markings. The Red Rippers logo was not always seen on the squadron aircraft's tails. Tailcode: AC 1xx CVW-3 (1980 - 1985) Tailcode: AE 1xx CVW-6 (1985 - 1991) Grumman F-14D Tomcat, 1992 - 1997 Aircraft markings - as with nearly every Navy squadron - are toned down to the low visibility colour scheme. All service markings and squadron patches are dark gray. CAG aircraft: After the first shock caused by the low visibility colours, the fighter squadron returned to some colours ... At least to the CAG and XO aircraft were applied coloursful squadron insignia. Sometime during the Ripper's time with the F-14D, they applied a desert camouflage scheme to at least one of their aircraft, modex number NK102. Tailcode: NK 1xx CVW-14 Grumman F-14B Tomcat, 1997 - today No change in squadron colours except that the vertical tail tip is now dark grey. New CAG aircraft colours: Tailcode: AG 2xx CVW-7 Graphics: © Torsten Anft, 1999-2001 |
