F-14 Photo Gallery This photo was taken when VF-31 commanding officer changed. The Ex-CO broke the sound barrier right beside the flight deck about 100 feet off the water while he was dropping flares. Then he lit off afterburner and pulled straight back going vertical pulling more than 9 Gs! Needless to say that after this maneuver the F-14 stayed in the hangar bay for quite a while - it was nothing but a skeleton. The maintenance crews inspected that bird for a month after that to make sure the Ex-CO didn't break anything ;-)
