161295 collided with 158635 over Red Sea Feb 2, 2004 during sortie from USS Enterprise. Both landed safely. 158635 only slightly damaged, but 161295 suffered serious damage including almost total loss of starboard tailfin and was declared a writeoff. SOC Mar 2, 2004. (AFM 11/2005)

15.06.1999: A/C was lost while operating from USS Kitty Hawk in the Arabian Sea. It crashed in the gulf after having been waived off 3 times and ran out of fuel. The cause for this were a batch of bad oil breather pressure switches that were giving faulty readings.
Both aircrewmen ejected safely. |
