A-6 Intruder![]() ![]() The Grumman design G-128, the latter A-6 Intruder, was designed to meet a 1956 Navy requirement for an all-weather low-level, long-range strike aircraft. First flight of the Intruder took place on 9 April 1960 and the Intruder should stay in service for the Navy for nearly four decades until its retirement in mid-1997. Several versions of the A-6 entered fleet- service: A naval bomber (A-6A/B/C/E), an electronic countermeasures aircraft (EA-6A) and an airborne tanker for inflight refueling (KA-6D).
