E-2 Hawkeye, C-2 Greyhound  First known as the W2F-1, the redesignated E-2 Hawkeye (late 1961) became from 1960 onwards the US Navy's only airborne early warning and control platform, like the land-based E-3 Sentrys AWACS. Therefore, the E-2C is also called "Mini-WACS". The Hawkeye made its maiden flight on 21 October 1961.  The C-2A Greyhound (upmost graphic) is a E-2 derivative and flew for the first time on 18 November 1964. The C-2 design uses the same wings, power plant and tail unit as the Hawkeye. Its role is Carrier Onboard Delivery (COD).  E-2C
