FF & SF

This is it! Grumman's Navy fighter NUMBER ONE! Designed as a two-seat carrier-based fighter, the FF prototype (Grumman design G-5) made its maiden flight in late 1931. Its designation earned the FF the nickname "Fifi". The second prototype, a XSF-1 (Grumman design G-6), followed little later for the scout role.
Additionally to the two prototypes, some 27 FF-1s and some 33 SF-1s were produced. After only a few years in service with the Navy, both aircraft were retired from active Fleet service in late 1936.
