AIM-120 AMRAAM
The AIM-120 AMRAAM (= Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile) is a medium-range air-to-air
missile and should have replaced the F-14's AIM-7 Sparrow. But todays F-14A/B/D do not have the
capability to carry and fire the AIM-120 because - even though missile tests were conducted (see
below photo) - the integration of the AMRAAM into fleet F-14s was rated as too cost intensive.
Thus the program was killed.
