Towbar Adapter

Towing is used to move the aircraft on the ground when the engines are shut down. Usually,
a towbar is attached to the noselanding gear and a tractor pulls or pushes the Tomcat around.
But sometimes - on the crowded decks of an aircraft carrier - the towbar can not be attached to
the noselanding gear: The towbar - which is a two-part bar like a pair of dividers - is then
spread out and attached to the rearward towbar adapters. The rearward towbar adapter is a
small device aft of each of the F-14's ventral fin:
