F-14 Main Landing Gear
The F-14's main landing gear is built to sustain the extreme forces when the aircraft touches down on the aircraft carrier deck. The shock that is absorbed by the landing gear onbard a carrier is much more extreme than that at touchdown on an ordinary runway. Generally on aircraft carriers, the landing shock is up to 5.5 G's but often hard landings cause forces of up to 6.5 G's! Even though the landing gear can cope with such hard landing shocks, it surely speeds up landing gear fatigue.
